This year's women's competition includes three teams from Asia - Olympic champions China, hosts Japan and Korea - one team from South America, Brazil - one team from Europe, Russia, and one team from the North, Central American and Caribbean Confederation (NORCECA), the United States. The women's competition is scheduled to begin at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on September 5 and 6 before moving to the Nippongaishi Hall in Nagoya from September 8 to 10.
